GraveRaiders - Building the Foundations

We’ve been hard at work building the foundations of GraveRaiders! From core systems and combat flow to multiplayer groundwork — the game is taking shape. Here’s a look behind the scenes at our progress!

GraveRaiders - Building the Foundations
GraveRaiders - First dev update

Hey everyone!

It’s been a few weeks since our last update, and we’re excited to share what’s been happening behind the scenes. First off, thank you to everyone who’s been following along with our journey — your enthusiasm keeps us motivated during those late-night coding sessions.

The Architecture Phase

We’ve been deep in what we call “the unglamorous but crucial stuff.” The kind of work that doesn’t make for flashy screenshots but determines whether your game will run smoothly or crash spectacularly.

Our focus right now: building our core systems from the ground up. We’re laying a solid foundation to support everything we want to achieve.

The character system has been our main priority lately. Without diving too far into the technical weeds, we’re creating something flexible enough to support wildly different playstyles, yet robust enough to handle the chaos of multiplayer co-op. Think of it as building the skeleton that will eventually support all the muscle and flesh of our game world.

Characters Coming to Life

Speaking of characters — we’ve been working on our first fully realized character class. This particular warrior brings something special to the table: a mastery over elemental forces that transforms both offensive and defensive capabilities.

We’re building abilities that flow naturally together, creating moments where tactical timing meets spectacular visual feedback. Combat is starting to feel really good:

  • Abilities chaining smoothly
  • Positioning making a real difference
  • Split-second decisions turning the tide of an encounter

We’re still fine-tuning the balance, but the foundation is solid.

The Multiplayer Challenge

One thing we’ve learned (sometimes the hard way) is that building for multiplayer from day one changes everything. Every system, every ability, every interaction has to work seamlessly — whether you’re playing solo or with three friends across different time zones.

We’re using Steam’s networking infrastructure alongside custom solutions to keep everyone synchronized, even when things get chaotic. And trust us… they will get chaotic.

What’s Next

Over the next few weeks, we’ll be:

  • Expanding the character roster
  • Diving deeper into dungeon generation systems
  • Experimenting with some of the unique mechanics that will set GraveRaiders apart

We know it’s been quiet on the visual front lately, but we promise the wait will be worth it. Sometimes you have to build the engine before you can show off the car, you know?

Community Corner

A quick reminder: our Discord is always open for anyone wanting to chat about the development process, share feedback, or hang out with fellow gaming enthusiasts.

We’re not quite ready for playtesting yet — but when we are, our community will be the first to know. Your input will be invaluable as we move forward.

That’s all for now! Keep an eye out for our next update — we might have some visual treats to share by then.

Until next time,
The DarkLoom Studio Team
