GraveRaiders – First Glimpse Into the Depths
Over the last few months, something has been taking shape in the shadows here at DarkLoom Studio. While SwordFall continues to be close to our hearts, another idea has been quietly clawing its way to the surface — one that we simply couldn't ignore.
Today, we're ready to give you your first look at our next game: GraveRaiders.
It's dark. It's dangerous. And it's built for those who thrive on adventure.
What is GraveRaiders?
At its core, GraveRaiders is a 1-4 player co-op tactical shooter roguelite set in a dark-fantasy world. Players take the role of daring "Raiders" who drop into open zones in search of treasure, glory, and answers to a growing mystery beneath the surface.
Every raid run is different — maps are procedurally assembled from hand-crafted tiles, making each 30-45 minute descent unpredictable. The enemies you face, the talents you unlock, and even the paths you take will change with every run.
Key Features (Without Spoilers)
True Co-Op Action
GraveRaiders is built from the ground up to be experienced with friends. Choose from four distinct Specialties (Assault, Recon, Support, or Engineer) each with two active abilities that define your role on the team.
Whether you're breaching through enemy positions, marking targets for your squad, keeping teammates alive under fire, or locking down zones with deployable assets, teamwork isn't just encouraged—it's essential.
You'll laugh, you'll panic, and you'll probably shout at each other when someone aggros the wrong elite.
Tactical Shooter Gunplay
This isn't a bullet-sponge horde shooter. Weapons feel punchy and weighty, enemies go down when you land your shots, and positioning matters. Use cover, coordinate flanks, and make every magazine count.
XP-Based Build Variety
Forget random item pickups—power is earned through XP. Every level up lets you choose from 100+ talents across Offensive, Defensive, Utility, and Team categories.
Stackable common talents let you specialize deep. Rare talents offer unique build-defining effects. By the end of a run, your build is yours—and you'll immediately want to try a different one.
Open Map Exploration
No linear room gates. Each run drops you into an open zone with outer rings, mid rings, and a dangerous core leading to a boss arena.
Explore freely. Tackle objectives in any order. Push deeper for better loot, or play it safe in the outer zones. Player-driven pacing, not scripted sequences.
The Extraction Gamble
Every run ends with a choice: push deeper or get out alive.
Die and you lose your run loot. Extract and you bank everything for permanent meta-progression back at the Safehouse.
That tension when the extraction timer starts and you're low on health with s lot of money and useful resources in your bag? That's the feeling we're chasing.
Boss Encounters Worth the Fear
Our bosses aren't just bigger enemies. They're set-piece challenges designed to push your coordination, reflexes, and courage to the limit.
Every boss is unique, with attack patterns and abilities that change as the fight progresses.
A Game That Grows With You
One of the things we're most excited about is how GraveRaiders evolves over time. Between runs, you'll return to your Safehouse to spend currency on workstation upgrades, unlocking new weapons, talents, specialties, and starting bonuses.
We'll be introducing new zones, enemies, and gear as the game develops, keeping the experience fresh long after release.
We want every run to feel like a story you tell afterwards—the clutch revives under fire, the perfect talent combo clicking into place, the moments where you thought you were done for but somehow made it out alive.
Why This Game?
As a indie studio, GraveRaiders is our chance to mix fast-paced tactical combat with the build variety of roguelites, all wrapped in an atmospheric world that's equal parts eerie and beautiful.
It's the kind of game where you and your friends start a "quick run" and end up playing for hours, chasing that one more perfect extraction.
What's Next
This is just the beginning. Over the coming months, we'll share:
- First looks at concept art and environment designs
- Sneak peeks at enemy types and boss encounters
- Deep dives into the Specialty system and talent builds
- Early gameplay snippets once we're ready
We're building GraveRaiders with the same care and ambition we pour into all our projects, and we can't wait for you to see more.
Until then… check your mag, rally your squad, and be ready when the graves start calling.
